Fallout: London may not be an official Fallout game developed and published by Bethesda, but it’s still proved to be a huge hit. And the massive free mod, released last month, just received its first major update, which fixes some things and nerfs the deadly fox packs running around post-apocalyptic London.
After a long wait and a last-minute delay due to a big Fallout 4 update, Fallout: London launched for free on July 25. The “game” is technically a free, fan-created mod for Fallout 4 on PC, but it feels more like a new game from Bethesda. And while reception to Fallout: London has been generally positive, there have been complaints about game crashes and annoying bugs. But a newly released update should help stabilize the mod.
On August 9, Good Old Games, which is working with the modders to distribute Fallout: London, confirmed in a press release that the game’s first big update was now live. It also confirmed that 500,000+ copies of the mod were downloaded in the first 24 hours.
One thing I immediately noticed in the lengthy patch notes is that foxes have been slightly nerfed in this update. This is good news for the many, many players who have complained about being attacked and killed by these furry little bastards while playing Fallout: London.
Some fans had started to joke they were worse than the series’ notorious Deathclaws. I’d not go that far, but a pack of foxes can quickly kill you if they show up at the wrong time, like after a fight or when you are low on ammo.
Another positive change is the reduction in how much rad damage you get per second when swimming around in the game’s water. Previously it was an incredibly high 250 rads a second, which basically meant you’d be dead any time you slipped into water. Now, London’s water only inflicts 169 rads a second, which is still enough that you should be careful, but not enough to instant kill you if you slip off a platform.
These all seem like good changes to me and I’m excited to jump back into Fallout: London soon. Hopefully, it will stop crashing on me, too. Here are the full patch notes for this update:
